Overview

FracTracker is passionate about making data and maps accessible to support the movement towards just energy solutions. We’re excited to release a new way for you to request and customize these tools!

On FracTracker’s new Services page, you can request a custom service from us: a map, a dataset, an audio or visual resource, a training, a speaker, or a community visit. Our hope is that this landing page will make it easier for residents, researchers, journalists, and organizers to access the data and visuals they need to create a healthier future.

Mapmaking has been FracTracker’s primary service since 2010, when fracking was just coming onto the public radar. Our organization formed from the need for people to understand where wells were being built and proposed. Since then, we’ve expanded our work beyond just mapping where wells are. We can show impacted populations and natural resources, vulnerable and at-risk site, and compounding environmental and social injustices.

But, what a map ultimately communicates depends on the data and context feeding into it, and that depends on people on the ground, sharing their knowledge about the region at stake. That’s why we’re working to make it easier for people like you to share their expertise and campaign goals, and to request the tools they need.

On the Services page, you can scroll through examples of the types of maps we make and how they have been used to create change. You’ll find a form to request a custom map and an option to schedule a brainstorming call, if you’d prefer to share your ideas over the phone.

You can also find forms to request other resources, such as datasets and imagery. There’s an option to request for FracTracker to lead a training on mapping tools and discuss applications of these resources for different audiences, such as medical professionals, or a group of organizers. If you’d like someone from FracTracker to speak at an event on the risks and effects of the oil and gas industry, you can request that, too. And we’re excited to offer a new service – a community visit – in which someone from FracTracker can meet with a group of residents or organizers to share our existing resources, gather information about a neighborhood, and discuss new ideas for collaborative projects to further different campaigns.
